As Senior Manager at Impact House by Grant Thornton The Netherlands (formerly Wolfs Company), Amílcar leads international advisory projects on nature finance for the public and private sectors, non-governmental organizations, Conservation Trust Funds (CTFs) and protected area managers in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Europe. His background combines environmental economics, stakeholder engagement and nature conservation.
Amílcar is one of the main authors of the latest 10-year review of CTFs and the 2020 expansion of the Practice Standards for CTFs of the Conservation Finance Alliance, and co-developed of the recently launched Practice Standards Self-Assessment Tool 2023. His experience with CTFs includes leading roles in the technical design of potential CTFs in Central America and South East Asia, design of resource mobilization strategies for The MedFund and Forever Costa Rica, organizational analysis and advice for the institutional development of the FSOA Benin, strategic planning for MAR Fund and the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future, advisory support throughout multiple stages of the Bridge project of CAFÉ and RedLAC, applied research on CTF-private sector partnerships across the RedLAC and CAFÉ member CTFs, and institutional assessments and due diligence of CTFs for African and Latin American Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) partnerships.
In parallel to his work with CTFs, Amílcar has conducted applied financial and economic research to inform national biodiversity policies in countries such as Belize, Costa Rica and Ghana, has developed sustainable financing strategies for 25+ coral reef management organizations in the Wider Caribbean and has advised diverse partnerships in the identification, screening and design of sustainable financing mechanisms for nature conservation.
