Curtis Bernard is Vice President at Conservation International Guyana and served on the Boards of the Guyana Protected Areas Trust (Trustee and Chairman) and the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (Director). He presents a unique mix of skills and experience in spatial planning and stakeholder engagement and institutional leadership.
Mr. Bernard has been involved in environmental management and conservation at technical, middle and senior management levels for more than two and a half decades. He possesses extensive experience regarding practical application of spatial planning and Geographic Information Systems in conservation management planning and has worked extensively with issues related to the conservation of Guyana’s ecosystems. He co-led analyses to identify Priority Areas for Biodiversity in Guyana; played key roles in processes leading to identification and revision of priority areas for conservation in the Guiana Shield; and participated significantly in the design and implementation of processes leading to the establishment of national protected areas and the Protected areas Trust in Guyana.
Curtis has engaged on matters of extractives and the environment and has extensive experience working with indigenous people.
Mr. Bernard holds a Master of Environmental Management degree from Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guyana.
